Whale Watching Visits

WCSD offers the Parent Teacher Home Visit program to assist schools and families to build stronger relationships outside of the school environment. Whitehead resolutely believes in the home visit program (renamed to "WHALE WATCHING VISITS") which has built long-lasting connections between staff and families since 2023.  This program helps families and the Whitehead staff see that when we support OUR students together towards their achievement's inside and outside of the school environment, we can accomplish great things!

Reach out to your student's teacher via ClassDojo or in person to schedule this enriching opportunity that others have enjoyed!

Family & Student Testimonials

"We really enjoyed the home visit.  It was great to see how Gavin interacts with his teacher and how comfortable he is around her.  It was a very positive visit and made us feel even more connected to his school experience."

                                                          - Araceli P., 5th Grade Mom

"Through the [Whale Watching Visits] to Yogurt Beach in the fall and our home in the spring, we got to know Ms. Grow and Ms. Avila.  It helped build a strong foundation between our family and the teachers.  It was special for my daughter to proudly show them our new home where we shared a snack and watched the teachers spend quality time with her.  We are grateful for the time and care they invested in getting to know our family.  All of the JWES teachers' willingness to connect with students beyond the classroom speaks volumes about their dedication and compassion.  Experiences Like these create lasting relationships and help children feel supported, valued, and excited to learn.  The [Whale Watching Visits] is such a positive and meaningful experience that we will continue to participate in while at JWES."

-Michelle O., Kindergarten Mom

"It was nice seeing my teacher over the weekend at Starbucks.  I enjoyed breakfast with her and Mrs. Elliot.  It made me feel excited to see my teachers outside of school."

-Tatum, 4th Grade Student

Staff Testimonials

"I have really enjoyed doing home visits with my students over the last 4 years.  It has helped strengthen the relationships between teacher and student, as well as teacher and parent.  My students get so excited that I have an interest in them outside of school.  Whether it’s going to one of their baseball games, football games, soccer games, going to ice cream with them, or the park, or just coming over to their house. They get to show me who they are outside of the classroom.  It truly enriches the whole child experience, that I’m not simply interested in their academics and grades, that I really care about them as children. Every home visit that I have done has had tremendous impact on the relationships that I am building within this school community. I truly love home visits!"

-Ms. Newman, 3rd Grade Teacher

“During home visits, students are excited to give a tour of their home, allowing them the opportunity to show off their favorite things. At sporting events, it is a joy to see the students play and have fun while connecting with parents on a personal level. These visits strengthen trust and communication between home and school.”

- Ms. Hiatt, 5th Grade Teacher

"Getting to know students outside of school has been a wonderful experience, and families are always so welcoming.  Home Visits strengthen relationships and help build a stronger school community.  My favorite part is seeing what students enjoy beyond the classroom."

-Mrs. Frye, 1st Grade Teacher
